Australia's timber-based building systems are undergoing a significant transformation, driven by growing housing demand, advances in prefabrication and the need for increasingly sophisticated, high-performance engineered wood products.

The Precinct represents an opportunity to transform Australia's established plantation timber resources into high-value, Australian-made building products and integrated construction solutions.

Envisioned as a world-scale, fully integrated advanced manufacturing ecosystem, The Precinct will produce engineered wood products, including Laminated Veneer Lumber (LVL) and Glue Laminated Timber (GLT), for which Australia is increasingly reliant on imports.

Located in the Green Triangle, one of Australia's major plantation forestry regions, The Precinct will leverage established timber resources, regional industry capability and strategic infrastructure to strengthen sovereign manufacturing and secure domestic supply chains.

From commodities to integrated solutions

The pathway to internationally competitive manufacturing is to move up the value chain, from commodities, to engineered products, to integrated building solutions. The Precinct's strategy is built around three priorities:

1. Be Your Own Best Customer

  • Scale matters
  • Advanced technology critical
  • Add value progressively
  • Deploy integrated manufacturing
  • Remove intermedia costs
  • Manufacture dwelling components, at scale, for markets across the country

Target: use >50% of production (LVL/GLT etc) to manufacture dwelling components

2. Deliver value-added solutions

  • Design for manufacturing led by end user partner needs
  • Integrated with local supply of other materials (sawnwood, wood panels, CLT etc) from regional industry partners
  • Catalyse regional integrated freight and logistics for national markets
  • Deliver prefabricated solutions for final assembly and installation by builders

Target: Dwelling components integrate to support prefabrication systems and increased multi residential housing formats

3. Partner the supply chain

  • Deliver complementary products – not ‘more of the same’
  • Distribute LVL and hardwood GLT to and through established partners
  • Extend to export for partners with global footprints
  • Secure domestic supply chain with 100% sovereign manufacturing solutions

Target: Industry partners distribute Precinct products as part of their Australian ‘full suite’ offering.
